Exports for upcoming international events

Posted: 5/7/2009, 11:47

Dear Exporter,

Reports of suspected cases of AHS have stopped and it appears that the risk of an outbreak in South Africa’s export zone is now over. This paves the way for South Africa’s elite competition horses to participate in next year’s important equestrian events:

  • Dubai International Racing Carnival, celebrating the grand opening of Meydan Racecourse
  • Endurance World Championships in the Middle East
  • Various Polo tournaments in the UK
  • World Equestrian Games in Kentucky.

Maintaining South Africa’s export status is partly as a result of the co-operation of the greater equestrian community in observing movement restrictions imposed by the South Africa SA Veterinary Services during the high risk period of the year. Racing South Africa’s strategic partners, the Equine Research Centre and the AHS Trust, also play a major supporting role in allowing the State Vet to make the right decisions and this goes a long way towards building confidence with South Africa’s trading partners.

A reminder of the dates of the August 2009 shipment from Kenilworth Quarantine Station:

Start Free Zone Residency (20 days):         15 June 2009

Start Pre-export Quarantine (40days):        05 July 2009

Departure for EU:                                       from 14 August 2009

There are limited spaces available in this shipment and given the anticipated demand for quarantine space later in the year, booking for this shipment is strongly recommended.  Please note, horses that are resident in the AHS Free Zone can be accommodated up until the start of pre-export quarantine, 5th July.
